A Bigger, Better, More Beautiful Base Lodge is Coming to Craigleith
Some exciting news from the slopes: Normerica Building Systems is partnering once again with Craigleith Ski Club to bring a brand-new expansion to their iconic Base Lodge! If you’ve ever warmed up by the fireplace or looked out those towering windows at the hill, you already know how special this place is. And now, it’s getting even better.
This new expansion adds more than 17,000 square feet to the heart of the Craigleith experience — designed with the same love and attention that made the original lodge such a beloved part of club life. And guess what? Normerica was the team behind that original 2004 build, too, so it’s exciting they are back to help write the next chapter.
A Natural Fit — In More Ways Than One
What’s unique about this project is how seamlessly it blends old and new. The new structure stays true to the timber-frame charm of the original while adding thoughtful, modern updates that focus on community, comfort, and sustainability. Think soaring ceilings, bright open spaces, warm wood finishes — and a whole lot more room to enjoy them in.
Normerica Building Systems is using advanced mass timber construction techniques like CLT (cross-laminated timber) and glulam beams, which are not only strong and beautiful but also more sustainable and energy-efficient. Plus, since many components are prefabricated, construction time will be reduced and will minimize disruption to club operations.
What’s in the Expansion?
Here’s a sneak peek at some of the features coming your way:
· Expanded Kitchen & Marché: More space and flexibility to serve up the delicious eats Craigleith’s membership is looking forward to — even during peak times.
· New Adult Lounge: A dedicated spot for members to relax, socialize, and enjoy some après-ski downtime.
· 160 New Family Lockers: Because more families = more gear. These new lockers make getting on and off the hill that much easier.
· Main-Floor Washrooms: Convenience matters, and these will help reduce congestion and improve the overall flow.
· 300 Additional Indoor Seats: Whether you’re grabbing lunch or just soaking in the view, there’ll be plenty of room for everyone.
Built with Heart and History
Since the beginning, Craigleith has been about community — and that’s exactly what this expansion is about too. From the start of construction in April 2025 through the planned completion in time for the 2026–2027 ski season, the team is focused on preserving the club’s alpine spirit while looking ahead to the future.
As Jeff Courtemanche, Craigleith’s General Manager, puts it: “We’re very excited about the future at Craigleith. This project represents our long-term vision to deliver a best-in-class experience for our members.”
