Alpine Ontario Alpin (AOA) would like to congratulate the 60 alpine ski racers who competed as part of Team Ontario at the Eastern Regional Championships that took place at Osler Bluff and Georgian Peaks March 20-24. Ontario’s racers and 15 coaches from around the province were led by Thomas Trusler and Tim Buchanan to compete in a Slalom, Giant Slalom, Super G, Team Dual Parallel and an Alpine Canada Skills Combine. The Eastern Regionals are part of Alpine Canada’s new format that splits the National Championships into an eastern and a western championship, and selects the fastest racers from each to attend Whistler Cup as the national benchmark.
Over the 5 days of competition, Quebec showed their strength and depth as they were a dominant force in all events, and took victory against Ontario in the provincial dual final. Ontario athletes took home 16/80 top ten finishes and landed 2 podium finishes. Congratulations to Osler’s Finn Foster on his 2nd place in the SG, and Jacob Mackey of Georgian Peaks for his win in the SG. From his results at Easterns and win in the SG, Jacob Mackey has earned a spot on Team Canada at the Whistler Cup. He will also take part in the Alpine Canada Project Excel camp with the top 12 from across the country.
