AOA is thrilled to welcome Martin Wilson as the new Ontario Ski Team Men’s Head Coach! With over 30 years of coaching experience, including most recently with St. Michael’s College in Vermont, Martin is set to bring his wealth of knowledge and passion to our team.

Above and beyond his on-hill work as a coach, Martin spends his free time taking a deep dive, conducting open, honest conversations with some of the biggest names in ski racing with his podcast “The Next Turn.”  Along with his two co-hosts, Jeff Vibert and Cara Williams, they are in pursuit of “better “ — better coaches, better athletes, better parents, better supporters, better advocates, and better fans.

Martin shares firsthand, “I have coached throughout North America and have been lucky enough to work with athletes from around the world. Over the years, thanks to that experience and to science and research, I’ve become more and more athlete-centric, realizing that high performance in sports is just human performance. There’s a direct correlation between high-functioning humans and high-performing athletes, which helps to create long-lasting success on and off the hill. All of that being said, I want the athletes to go fast–results do matter, but I think this is the best and most healthy way to find that success. I’m excited to get on the plane and head to Chile with the team and start this process.”

Now for the hard facts — A native of Thunderbay, Ontario, Martin now spends his free time at home with his family in the Green Mountains of Vermont.  He lists his ski hero as Swiss legend Pirmin Zurbriggen.  If he were to describe the best skier in the world, he would paint a canvas with 1 part Bode Miller, 1 part Stenmark, 1 part Shiffrin, and a dash of Hirscher.  In describing his best day ever on snow, he says it has to be the first day on the chair with his 3 kids.

Martin has gone full steam ahead with his athletes. The team has been hard at work through a fitness block, finishing with a boot camp this past weekend. As mentioned, the men are now gearing up to hit the slopes in Chile next week.

Please join us in welcoming Martin, and we couldn’t be more excited for the journey ahead!
