The Southern Ontario Division (SOD) represents 32 ski clubs in the area from Belleville to London to Peterborough with the most condensed population of skiers in the Collingwood area. These racers and clubs make up over 80% of the Provincial Sport Organization of Alpine Ontario Alpin and as such offers its membership racing at the U12, U14, U16 & U18/U21 levels and offers SOD CUP, and OCUP streams of racing.
SOD Committee
The SOD Committee is dedicated to fostering a thriving alpine skiing community in the SOD region by supporting athletes, coaches, and clubs. We are committed to organizing fair and competitive race opportunities, promoting athletic development, and providing resources to educate and empower our member clubs.
Goals
To create a cohesive and supportive alpine skiing community that nurtures the growth of athletes and coaches elevates competition standards, and enhances the overall experience of the sport for all members in the SOD region.
- Enhance Athlete Development: Provide resources, such as access to fitness testing and development programs, to support the growth of SOD athletes and support pathways to high-level competition.
- Support Coaches: Facilitate ongoing education opportunities providing tools and knowledge to strengthen coaching across the region.
- Organize Competitive Race Series: Schedule and manage the SOD race series with a focus on fair competition, clear rules, and effective scoring that promotes fair play, integrity, and athletic development.
- Pathway to OCUP Finals: Establish a structured pathway for athletes to progress towards the OCUP finals, ensuring clear access and opportunities for advancement.
- Engage and Educate Member Clubs: Through the SOD Ambassador Program, provide guidance, information, and updates to keep member clubs connected and informed.
- Manage SOD Budget Responsibly: Ensure transparent and effective use of funds collected from SOD athletes’ AOA memberships to support programming, development, and resources within the region.

Southern Ontario Division maintains a unique relationship with Alpine Ontario Alpin due to its stature and size of membership. SOD does not maintain its own website but uses the AOA website to host division news, SOD Cup, and OCUP standings, events, and results.

Shawn brings a wealth of knowledge garnered through his time as Program Manager at Beaver Valley. his years as Chair of the SOD Committee and his time heading up Park Scrapers.
Shawn represents SOD Committee on the ground working to build programs, consensus and to bring thoughts, ideas and questions back to the Committee.
