The Organization
Alpine Ontario Alpin (AOA) is the Provincial Sports Organization recognized by Alpine Canada Alpin (ACA), the Canadian Snowsports Association, the Ontario Winter Games, and the Ontario Government.
AOA plays a critical role in bringing the joy of ski racing to athletes, families, coaches, and clubs – from start gates and podium finishes to careers and community. And we’re on a pathway to empower a safe, inclusive, and integrated alpine sports ecosystem for everyone. To learn more about Alpine Ontario, please visit www.alpineontario.ca.
AOA has over 30,000 members and 37 member ski clubs, which include athletes, parents, coaches, volunteers, officials, and corporate partners. Alpine Ontario generates critical funding through membership fees, government funding, partnerships, donations, events, and targeted activations (e.g., merchandise, 50/50 draws, silent auctions). These funds are used to support the following deliverables:
- Sport Administration
- Marketing and Communications
- Athletic Programming
- Coach Education
- Safe Sport
- Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
The Opportunity
AOA seeks to fill vacancies on its Board of Directors as of September 2024. Our Board is comprised of impassioned volunteers who bring best-in-class skill sets, perspectives, and strategic thinking to reach AOA’s goals and corporate objectives. We reflect combined expertise in corporate citizenship, business strategy and delivery, governance, athletics, and community engagement.
The term of office as a director is three years, and each director is eligible for election for up to two full terms. Based on the current composition of the Board, the needs of the organization, the expertise, competencies, and priority criteria that the Board is looking to fill include:
- Financial strategy and accounting
- Fundraising and fund development
- Sport system knowledge
- Safe sport, diversity, and inclusion
In general and in future years, other competencies and expertise we wish to maintain include legal compliance, marketing and communications, governance and leadership, strategic planning and vision, and human resources and development.
Beyond these areas of functional expertise, the Board prioritizes candidates whose personal backgrounds will also enhance the social diversity of the Board, which includes factors such as age, ethnocultural background, gender, and regional location.
Director Roles and Responsibilities
In governing AOA, the Board sees and supports its management and is responsible for its overall strategic direction, policies, and risk management. AOA’s directors serve as ambassadors for the organization and leverage their expertise to advance its purpose and mission.
Directors are expected to actively engage with the Executive Director, participate in monthly Board meetings, and lead committees relevant to areas of expertise.

Interested applicants and/or nominated individuals who share a passion for our vision and meet the competencies and criteria noted above should email their CV with a short introduction to Patrick Biggs, AOA Executive Director, at pbiggs@alpineontario.ca no later than July 31, 2024.
