The Organization

Alpine Ontario Alpin (AOA) is the Provincial Sport Organization recognized by Alpine Canada Alpin (ACA), Canadian Snowsports Association, Ontario Winter Games, Canada Winter Games, and the Ontario Government.

AOA plays a critical role in bringing the joy of ski racing to athletes, families, coaches, and clubs, from start gates and podium finishes to careers and community. And we are on a pathway to empower a safe, inclusive, and integrated alpine sport ecosystem for everyone. To learn more about Alpine Ontario, please visit www.alpineontario.ca

AOA has over 30,000 members and over 40 member ski clubs, which include athletes, parents, coaches, volunteers, officials, and corporate partners. Alpine Ontario generates critical funding through membership fees, government funding, partnerships, donations, events, and targeted activations (e.g., merchandise, 50/50 draws, silent auctions). These funds are used to support the following deliverables:

  • Sport Administration
  • Marketing and Communications
  • Athletic Programming
  • Coach Education
  • Safe Sport
  • Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

The Opportunity

AOA is seeking to fill vacancies on its Board of Directors as of September 2026. Our board is comprised of impassioned volunteers who bring best-in-class skill sets, perspectives, and strategic thinking in support of reaching AOA’s goals and corporate objectives. We reflect a combined expertise in corporate citizenship, business strategy and delivery, governance, athletics and community engagement.

The term of office as a director is three years, and each director is eligible for election for up to two full terms. Based on the current composition of the board and the needs of the organization, the priority competencies for this cycle are:

  • Financial strategy, accounting, and oversight
  • Board governance
  • Sport system knowledge
  • Safe sport, diversity, and inclusion

Preference will be given to candidates who reside in or are affiliated with the National Capital Division (NCD) or the Lake Superior Division of Alpine (LSDA) regions, as the two vacancies reflect seats associated with those divisions. Candidates from across Ontario with strong finance or governance backgrounds are also encouraged to apply, as the board will consider overall board composition and skill needs in its final assessment.

In general, and in future years, other competencies and expertise we wish to maintain include: legal and compliance, marketing and communications, strategic planning and vision, human resources and development, and fundraising and fund development.

Beyond functional expertise, the Board will prioritize candidates whose personal backgrounds enhance the social diversity of the Board in terms of age, ethnocultural background, gender, and regional location.

Director Roles and Responsibilities

In governing AOA, the Board both oversees and supports AOA’s management and is responsible for its overall strategic direction, policies, and risk management. AOA’s directors serve as ambassadors for the organization and leverage their expertise to advance AOA’s purpose and mission.

Directors are expected to actively engage with the Executive Director, participate in monthly Board meetings, and lead or contribute to committees relevant to their areas of expertise.

Application Process and Timeline

Interested applicants and/or nominated individuals who share a passion for our vision and meet the competencies and criteria noted above should forward their CV with a short introduction by email to: Patrick Biggs, AOA Executive Director, at: pbiggs@alpineontario.ca, no later than June 30th.
