COLLINGWOOD, ON (June 14, 2017) Alpine Ontario Alpin (AOA) would like to thank all the athletes and families who participated in the two spring athletic bursaries: The Dave Murray Ski Foundation for $750.00 and the Ski Canada Magazine for $1,000.

AOA had a strong response to both bursaries making an already difficult decision even harder. The process this year included a points system for each applicant in following categories:

1.  Potential to rise to the top of this sport in Ontario and Canada (for FIS Athletes applying)

&

2.  The need for financial support.

The final decision was determined by points, not names, shifting the decision to be as impartial as possible.

AOA is pleased to announce Camryn Metzger will be this year’s recipient of the Dave Murray Ski Foundation Bursary.  Camryn is a Georgian Peaks Ski Club member who has re-qualified for the Ontario Ski Team for her third season. She remains one of the leading athletes on the team and her goals specifically include qualifying for the CAST Development Team which AOA supports.

For the Ski Canada Magazine Bursary, a decision was made to split the funds to one female and one male. The final decision selected Emma Gosselin (U16, 2003 born) from Osler Bluff Ski Club/ Southern Ontario Division and Mathieu Beauchamp (U16, 2002 born) from Searchmont Ski Runners/Northern Ontario Division.  AOA will be supporting Emma as she heads off to her first-ever summer ski camp this year in August with the new U16 Development Program. She had a successful season on the OCUP Circuit and was a member of Team Ontario at the Can-Am Mont Tremblant races. We wish Emma all the best on the slopes of Zermatt and know she will continue to work hard on and off the slopes this season.

Mathieu made the decision two seasons ago to switch ski clubs to access steeper slopes at Searchmont which included a 4-hour drive from his family home. Mathieu was one of the participants in the Mike & Manny Camp at Whistler and is eyeing a top spot on the U16 circuit this coming season. AOA is happy to support his self-drive to improve by accessing steeper slopes and wish him great success pursuing his ski racing dreams.included a 4-hour drive from his family home. AOA encourages families to apply for the Karbon Bursary this coming fall and regrets that we cannot support more worthy athletes with bursaries.  The Karbon bursary that will open in the fall, please watch RACELINE & the AOA Website for the application links.
