Duration:          Part-Time Seasonal (December-April)

Job Summary: 

As a Ski Coach at Beaver Valley Ski Club, you will play a key role in delivering exceptional experiences to our members. We have opportunities to coach both children and/or adults. You will be responsible for providing instruction and guidance to individuals and groups of all ages and skill levels that align with Alpine Canada’s Long Term Athletic Development plan (LTAD). Your passion for sports, strong teaching skills, and dedication to safety will help our members build their skills and confidence on the slopes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coaching:
    • Provide safe and engaging coaching of ski racing techniques, including but not limited to technical freeskiing, Paneled Slalom, Slalom, Giant Slalom & possibly Super-G.
    • Work with the Head Coach to assess the skill level of each student and develop lesson plans tailored to their abilities and goals.
    • Teach proper form, technique, and safety protocols, emphasizing fun in a sometimes-competitive environment.
  • Safety:
    • Maintain a strong emphasis on safety for all members during programs.
    • Ensure that members are equipped with appropriate safety gear and enforce club and industry safety standards. (Helmets must be worn while in bindings during programs)
  • Member Interaction:
    • Create a welcoming and inclusive environment for all members.
    • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and club staff to provide a positive experience.
  • Equipment Knowledge:
    • Assist members by answering questions about equipment selection and adjustments to ensure a proper fit.
    • Stay updated on the latest equipment and technology trends in Ski Racing.
  • Progress Evaluation:
    • Conduct regular assessments of student progress and provide constructive feedback.
    • Encourage skill development and goal achievement.
  • Professional Development:
    • Attend training sessions and workshops to improve your skills and teaching techniques.
    • Maintain certifications and qualifications as required by the club and PSO/NSO.
  • Administrative Tasks:
    • Complete necessary admin-work, such as lesson records and incident reports.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience as a Race Coach
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving and conflict resolution abilities.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, outdoor environment in varying weather conditions.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand and ski for extended periods in challenging conditions.
  • Lift and carry up to 30 pounds of equipment.
  • Good physical fitness and stamina.
