These athletes came together for the first time on May 6 – 7th at the Canadian Sport Institute of Ontario (CSIO). A weekend of cutting edge athletic testing, leadership sessions, team building exercises was led by Erin Smith, owner of Totem Wellness, along with CSIO Sport Physiologist David Bentley and the two AOA Athletic Consultants for the U16 age group,  Graeme Buckrell and Heather Metzger.

Following this initial testing, each athlete met for a one-on-one screening with Totem Wellness to develop their individualized Athlete Monitoring Mobile APP (learn more about the APP here) with input from the CSIO team. Commencing June 1st all athletes will start their custom dryland programs and the mentoring program. In addition to the 12 days on snow Zermatt camp in August, two more dedicated weekends are planned for mid-September and mid-October including testing, team building, and leadership sessions.

AOA Executive Director Scott Barrett comments, “We’re thrilled with how the program has evolved so far. Day by day, the team led by Heather, Graeme and Erin are working hard adding mentors, planning the on-snow camp and the 2018 opportunities. They are such passionate leaders I believe this will pay off throughout the sport – certainly with the U16s athletes themselves –  but also with the club coaches who will work alongside AOA.
