The SOD Ski Team and its staff of Taylor Martin, Bebe Zoricic and Will Gyles could not be happier with how the most recent trip to El Colorado, Chile went. A team of 16 SOD FIS athletes, one guest from Eastern Canada and three OST/AOA Alumni attended the camp for almost three weeks of training.

The team started with the usual return to snow freeski to get our feet back under us and adjust to winter and the high altitude in Chile. We then moved into drills courses, followed by full gate Slalom. Days ran from 8AM to about 2-3 PM with anywhere from eight runs to up to 15 runs in courses! This was followed up with additional technical freeskiing.

Most of the remainder of the camp focused on GS and Super-G. Sessions of GS with lengths of about 40-50 seconds were followed with Super-G freeski to get the feel of the long boards under the racers feet. We had multiple GS and Super-G tracks working alongside, not only teams like NCO, OST and the Quebec Men’s Team, but also World Cup and Europa cup skiers from Serbia, Poland, Slovakia and the Czech Republic. It was a very cool environment to have our athletes exposed to. We would also like to acknowledge the members of the U16 HPP group that joined our training. Look forward to having them on the SOD for 2020!

It was a fantastic camp overall and Taylor, Bebe and myself are very happy with the progress that was made and the attitude of the athletes towards the sport and each other. We would like to offer a special thanks to the three college/alumni guys that also attended this camp. Patrick and Corey McConville and Karl Kuus. These individuals are great examples to the athletes and were a very positive influence to the SOD Skiers. They are all true examples of the longer-term benefits of the sport.

On behalf of our coaching staff I would like to close by saying we were impressed with the skiing abilities of this group and how hard they worked on and off the hill. This is an excellent crew of athletes and we are off to a great start! We look forward to getting the entire team together closer to season!
