Job Title: Ontario Ski Team Assistant Coach

Reports to: Ontario Ski Team Head Coach

The Team:

The Ontario Ski Team (“OST”) is a high-performance development program designed to prepare  Ontario’s best FIS ski racers with the broad range of skills and characteristics needed to succeed at  the highest levels of international competition. The primary athletic goals of the Ontario Ski Team  are to help athletes maximize athletic potential, and advance to the Canadian Alpine Ski Team  (CAST). The primary benchmark events for the Ontario Ski Team are Nor am Cup and the World  Junior Championships. Many graduating Ontario Ski Team athletes choose to pursue their athletic  goals through National Collegiate Athletic Association or other elite university ski racing  programs.

The primary athletic goals of the Ontario Development Ski Team (“ODST”) are to help athletes  maximize athletic potential and advance to the Ontario Ski Team. Primary benchmark events are regional, national, and international FIS competitions.

Position Summary:

The role of the assistant coach is to support the Ontario Ski Team athletes in reaching their athletic goals and to support the OST Head Coach(es) in delivering the program. All OST coaches should understand and promote the vision, goals, and culture of Alpine Ontario. This will involve being a team player and leading by example on and off the hill. All coaches are expected to embrace the demands of the job, which involves extensive travel nationally and internationally and representing Ontario at all events, including FIS, Nor Am, and other international competitions.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support the OST Head Coach in delivering all aspects of programming, on and off the hill, as decided by OST Head Coach(es), including but not limited to:
    • Organizing and delivering on snow or physical conditioning training sessions
    • Ensuring a safe training environment
    • Setting or assist in course setting
    • Video filming, uploading, and analysis with athletes as needed
    • Data Tracking and Athlete Wellness Monitoring
  • Driving team vehicles and athletes to training, competition or other Team activities as required
  • Help with preparation of individual athlete equipment
  • Maintain and otherwise care for OST equipment
  • Supporting and advancing the vision, goals, and procedure of the Ontario Ski Team, Ontario Development Ski Team and Alpine Ontario
  • Other related duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skill and Abilities:

  • Thorough understanding and ability to coach alpine ski racers in all performance factors
  • Ability to work and thrive in a team environment and follow the lead and direction of the Head Coach
  • Capacity to organize daily training environments and logistics
  • Preparedness to work long hours and tolerate the physical and other demands of high-performance ski programming
  • Competence with video filming, sharing, and analysis
  • Commitment to providing safe and inclusive environments for athletes to thrive.
  • Commitment to following and furthering the AOA HP Plan, Vision, and Objectives.
  • Commitment to excellence in providing Daily Training Environments
  • Experience using SSSMi resources, tools and metrics (S&C, data tracking, athlete wellness monitoring, mental performance support, IAPP use and tracking).
  • Ability to perform, multi-task, and meet deadlines under pressure or high-stress environments
  • Passion to inspire OST athletes to peak performance
  • Proficiency with budgeting and financial reporting

Supervision and Reporting:

  • Report directly to OST Head Coach and indirectly when required to AOA HP Director and Executive Director
  • Supervise OST athletes to ensure compliance and alignment with OST Athlete Agreement and AOA’s Code of Conduct
